TikToker ditches her date because he asked her to 'hold his drink'

A woman on TikTok is sparking backlash for leaving her date and blocking him for a reason that many are calling petty.

If you are a regular TikTok user, you may have come across the creator Winta Zesu. The TikToker makes relatable lifestyle and vlog-style videos on the platform and has amassed a following close to 500K. However, an old video from 2023 has recently gone viral for the wrong reasons. The video has sparked backlash from fellow influencers and users after Winta shared how she left a guy she was on a date with and blocked him after he made her hold his drink.

TikToker ditches her date because he asked her to hold his drink

In June of 2023, Winta posted two videos detailing her first date experience. She filmed herself standing outside the bathroom at a restaurant as her date went in. She is seen holding his drink in the video that’s been viewed over 7 million times. The in-video caption reads, “Your date made you wait outside the bathroom to hold his drink and wait, so you blocked him and left.” When she started getting a lot of heat for her point of view on the situation, she made another video explaining her thought process even further.

Explaining her logic even further, she doubled down saying the fact that her date expected her to wait while holding his drink showed her how he would treat her if they ever got together. However, the second video didn’t do any damage control despite getting hundreds and thousands of views. She captioned the second video “Dodged a bullet,” a statement that quickly turned on her.

TikTok reacts to woman’s first date logic

“He’s the one that dodged the bullet,” said one user.

“How the hell does him asking you to hold a drink define your relationship in the future?” asked a second one.

“Him: can you hold my open drink while I go to an unsanitary room? Her: OMG that’s such a red flag,” a third one mockingly wrote.

“No guys she’s right, he should’ve kept it in his boot like Alex Russo,” a fourth one sarcastically said.

More recently, TikTok fitness influencer Joey Swoll called out Winta Zesu for “bragging” about her actions. “If I am ever out with someone and they leave to go to the restroom or anywhere, I always watch and protect their drink,” he says. His caption read, “You did him a favor by leaving,” Swoll captioned the video.

First date etiquette tips you should always follow

Always Make An Effort To Be On Time

No one likes waiting too long for the person they are meeting, especially not on a first date. If circumstances forbid you from being on time, you need to communicate that to the person who’s been waiting for you so they don’t assume you’ve ghosted them. Being late on a first date already reduces your chances of getting a second one.

Put Your Phone Away

Most of us have had experiences with people who were more interested in looking at their phones than talking to us. However, this is one of the biggest turn-offs on a first date.

Make eye contact

Although it can be nerve-racking to meet new people, it is important to keep eye contact with your date. It helps display genuine interest, enthusiasm and attraction. Just make sure you get a feel for the room and avoid making them feel uncomfortable by staring at them obsessively.

Listen intently

When your date is sharing something about your life, make sure you are really listening and not just nodding along. Nothing is a bigger turn-off than someone who isn’t mentally and emotionally available.
