Spectator turned fourth official awarded with Cup final tickets

The spectator who stepped in as a fourth official during last weekend's Bundesliga match between Wolfsburg and Cologne has been awarded with two tickets for the German Cup final.

The t-online portal said on Saturday that apart from the tickets for the May 25 game in Berlin Tobias Krull also received a referee shirt signed by all Bundesliga referees.

But an additional financial compensation for the 32-year-old was not planned, the report said.

In the January 27 game, linesman Thorben Siewer was hit in the head by the ball early on and could not continue, with fourth official Nicolas Winter taking his place.

A new fourth official was found via an announcement in the stadium whether someone in the crowd had a referee's licence and could take Winter's place.

Former Wolfsburg youth player Krull, the goalkeeper and sporting director at neighbouring club MTV Gifhorn in the regional football league, came forward and did the job.

"To be honest, whether you officiate in the lowest league or have a job here, you do it in an impartial way and try to do it as good as possible," Krull said post-match.

"It was the same here. It took me five minutes to get into it. I had no time to think about it. Change - and then it started."
