"He's always been my idol"... Hojlund names his Man Utd hero growing up, he doesn't even hesitate

Rasmus Hojlund is smashing it for Manchester United at the moment.

The Danish striker has really found his feet at Old Trafford, and more importantly, his goal-scoring touch. He looks destined now to be the next great striker in Manchester.

He’ll follow in the footsteps of club legends such as Wayne Rooney, Eric Cantona and Robin van Persie – elite goalscorers adored by their fans.

But it’s none of these who had the most influence on the Manchester United fan growing up.

Rasmus Hojlund picks Manchester United idol

In an interview with The United Stand, United’s leading man talked all things United with Mark Goldbridge.

This included what would be his ultimate Manchester United five-a-side team and also the player who was his idol growing up. He said:

“It has to be Cristiano [Ronaldo],” he begins. “[Wayne] Rooney and [Carlos] Tevez as well, but Cristiano was probably the guy. I remember supporting him and following him at United, then watching him at the period in Juventus, then back again as well. He’s always been my idol.”

It had to be for Rasmus. We’re seeing a recurring theme at Manchester United at the moment.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence is unmatched…

Manchester United have a squad full of players who absolutely adore Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alejandro Garnacho, as everyone knows, is heavily influenced by him, as is Kobbie Mainoo and pre-existing United players also had the pleasure of playing with him. He truly is a club legend and a footballing icon.

If Hojlund can ever replicate even a smidge of the legacy that Ronaldo has around Old Trafford, then United fans have a reason to be excited.

For his first season, he’s started off brilliantly – but the best thing is? He’s only going to get better and better.
