An Indiana man claimed his girlfriend had “come at him with a knife” — but now police say he allegedly attempted to stage the scene before calling officers.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, 60-year-old Charles Michael Calvert called 911 and alleged his girlfriend tried to attack him with a knife and she was “no longer with us,” according to court documents obtained by WPTA.
The documents show Calvert claimed the pair were arguing and both holding knives when his girlfriend came at him.
When police arrived at the home in Grabill, they reportedly found Calvert standing in the driveway with his hands up and his phone in his hand.
Officers went inside the home and reportedly found the woman, later identified as Marcia Linsky, lying face down with a large gash on her head and neck.
Calvert, who told police he had been dating the victim for about a year, was placed into handcuffs.
The suspect claimed he was cutting onions when Linsky allegedly told him he wasn’t doing it correctly and she got “very aggressive.” According to court documents, Calvert said Linsky allegedly shoved the crock pot towards him and came at him with a knife, so he also armed himself with a grabbed a knife.
Calvert said he then “became very defensive” and didn’t remember any other details, according to the legal documents.
Calvert’s dad said his son called him and said he hurt his girlfriend “came at him."
Police obtained a search warrant and believe that the knives found on the floor at the crime scene had been staged. One knife was covered in blood, but the second was relatively clean, court records state. Officers said they found an onion peel in the trash, but no chopped onions.

Police said they found the crock pot spilled on the floor, a pair of men’s pants and a shirt that had blood on them as well as blood in a shower. Linsky’s eyeglasses were on the counter and they noticed shoe scuff marks on the floor, as if there had been a struggle.
When listening back to the 911 call, police noted Calvert was calm throughout the call and seemed to have no sense of urgency, even as he reported Linsky was no longer breathing, officials said.
“She came at me and I responded inappropriately. I’m going to spend the night in jail," Calvert allegedly said in the call.
Calvert was arrested and charged with murder, according to authorities.
