Why one AirPod always runs out faster than the other

The reason why one of your AirPods runs out of battery quicker than the other has been revealed, with TikTok users offering a quick fix for the issue.

Apple first launched its AirPods in 2016, revolutionizing the technology market and setting a new industry standard. Since their first generation, Apple has released improved models and now the AirPods Pros even come with active noise cancellation (ANC).

Why does one AirPod run out quicker?

Late last year, TikTok user Official Apple Explained posted a lengthy video about the issue of one AirPod running out quickly.

“There are a few reasons why this could happen, with the most common being a contact issue inside the charging case,” he explained. “When placing your AirPods inside, it’s possible that one doesn’t make full contact with the charging pin.”

This causes the battery to slowly drain, resulting in one of them being at a drastically different charge level.

To rectify the issue, Official Apple suggested using a cotton swab to clean the inside of the charging case.

“The same goes for the AirPods themselves, wiping down the metal area of the stem will prevent charging issues in the case,” he added.

Another possible issue could be if one of your AirPods is using Siri. Because it’s actively using the microphone, it could lose charge quicker. You can alter these settings in the Bluetooth tab on your iPhone.

If you typically remove one earphone to talk to someone, then the other could also be losing charge.

Apple users had a string of issues

While most of Official Apple Explained’s followers thanked him for the top tips, most of the comments spoke to other issues Apple users were having.

One person wrote: “Why one AirPod always runs out faster than the other.”

“Can someone explain why my AirPods keep on connecting to my phone when they’re in their case (and essentially drain it’s own battery),” another person wrote, while a third added, “My Airpods Pro has the issue that the right earpiece makes a crackling sound when moving it inside the ear. The left one doesn’t have this issue.”
