'He has speed': Destiny Udogie says he was a big fan of right-back Arsenal once signed for £7m

Destiny Udogie has been speaking about some of his favourite full-backs in Premier League history, and he’s reserved some special praise for Bacary Sagna.

It’s easy to forget that the French defender was one of the very best right-backs in the Premier League during his time at Arsenal.

Perhaps it’s because the Gunners didn’t win much during that period, but Sagna is often forgotten when the discussion of best Premier League full-backs in history crops up.

The former Arsenal man was a top player, and while he’s often forgotten in these conversations, Udogie remains a fan.

Destiny Udogie praises Bacary Sagna

The full-back spoke about the one-time £7m Arsenal signing on Amazon Prime Sport’s TikTok page.

“Sagna or Ivanovic?” Udogie was asked.

“Maybe Sagna. I think he was a good right-back, he was complete, he has speed, power and he can drive the ball,’ Udogie said.

Underrated

It’s nice to hear Sagna getting some praise in this context as he never really seems to get the credit he deserves from the wider footballing world.

We mean it when we say that Sagna was the best right-back in the Premier League for a whil, but he’s never really recognised for his abilities and contributions at Arsenal.

Perhaps it’s because so many incredible right-backs have come to the fore in recent years, but Sagna is always left out of conversations whenever some of the best right-backs in the history of the league are discussed.

Sagna isn’t the best right-back in the history of the Premier League, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, but he certainly does deserve an honourable mention as he was the standout performer in this position in the league in the early 2010s.

Sagna was a top player, and there’s a reason Udogie was such a fan of his back in the day.
