Owners need to put the M back into West Ham as fans rage over Rush Green

The club’s owners need to put the M back into West Ham United as fans rage over shoddy looking Rush Green.

Not M for Money – although the Hammers training base could certainly do with an expensive overhaul.

But quite literally the M from the West Ham United lettering which adorns the wall outside Rush Green.

If the lifeblood of a football club is the fans and the stadium the heart and soul, then the training ground is the brain for any club.

And the state of West Ham’s is playing on the minds of supporters right now.

Owners need to put the M back into West Ham – literally

Hammers supporters have been posting pictures from outside the Romford training base showing a missing letter ‘M’ from West Ham United.

The walls look like they could do with a lick of paint when the weather allows.

And with the cheap looking West Ham badge canvas cover over green entrance gates, it paints a pretty sorry picture for a Premier League facility where hundreds of millions of pounds worth of talent trains on a daily basis.

Sorry sight for world’s 18th richest club

Especially given West Ham’s ownership has a combined net worth of over £10.5bn – the fourth highest in the top flight.

And the club was once again listed in the top 20 richest clubs in world football in the 2024 Deloitte Money League.

Fans have been slamming the club over the state of the outside of the training ground.

It’s understandable too.

Facilities have been a running joke for too long

It doesn’t reflect particularly well on the club. Who knows the Hammers may be awaiting the delivery of a new letter M. They may also have plans to improve the aesthetics outside.

The images are not helped by the fact West Ham’s training ground facilities have long been a running joke among fans. In reality it is no laughing matter, though.

They have been a constant source of embarrassment for supporters in comparison to other clubs. So imagine how the players feel?

At Chadwell Heath players who complained were famously told by long-serving club staff: ‘It was good enough for Bobby Moore’.

David Moyes has spoken in the past about wanting the Hammers to use some of the money invested by Czech billionaire co-owner Daniel Kretinsky to improve the training ground.

At some point in the near future the club’s owners must give West Ham the modern, state-of-the-art training complex befitting a top class Premier League side.
