Max’s live sports tier will offer Dolby Vision (take that, Amazon)

Just a day after news emerged that Amazon Prime Video with ads users will have to do without Dolby Vision and Atmos, Max is piping up with some well-timed Dolby Vision news of its own.

Max says it’s adding Dolby Vision to its add-on live sports tier, a move that makes it the first streamer to offer live streaming sports with Dolby Vision HDR support.

Max’s Bleacher Report Sports Add-On tier already supports Dolby Atmos, meaning you’ll get to enjoy both Dolby technologies when streaming live sports on the Max add-on tier.

The arrival of Dolby Vision on Max’s Bleacher Report add-on comes just days before the NBA All-Star Game this coming Sunday, with coverage slated to include a two-hour tip-off prior to the game along with the NBA All-Star Game “Altcast” starring Taylor Brooks, Draymond Green, and Charles Barkley.

News of Dolby Vision coming to Max’s Bleacher Report add-on tier comes after word that Amazon has pulled Dolby Vision and Atmos from the default—and now ad-supported—membership tier of Prime Video.

Amazon didn’t announce the change in advance, and now Prime Video users are fuming that they must upgrade to the ad-free version to get Dolby Vision and Atmos back.

Max rolled out its Bleacher Report Sports Add-On last September.

The new tier offers a “full slate” of Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, NBA, and U.S. Soccer events, along with NCAA March Madness matchups, according to Max parent Warner Bros. Discovery.

The Bleacher Report sports add-on will eventually cost $10 a month in addition to your base Max membership.

The good news is that a free trial of the Max sports add-on has been extended “several months” beyond the original February 29 cut-off date, as Max irons out some behind-the-scenes “tech integrations,” according to Variety.

Max has yet to set a new end date for the Bleecher Report free trial.
