Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6: early patch notes, file size – and why Mac players aren't happy

By Shabana Arif

Larian Studios is giving Baldur's gate 3 players more of what they've been begging for in the next update, with more quality of life updates as well as the requisite horndog elements the RPG has a reputation for.

Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6 is set to drop some time this week, and given it's already Thursday, the release is imminent. The update is rolling out on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam Deck, as well as Mac...eventually. And that's where the problem lies. Since launch, Mac players have had to wait for each Baldur's Gate 3 patch to make its way to the platform, long after going live on PC and console. Last month, Larian promised to bring Mac updates inline with the PC, saying there'll be no more than a two-week wait while it sets this all up, but it certainly isn't happening for Patch 6.

It's worth noting that the studio hasn't put a date on this simultaneous rollout, although it was addressed again in Hotfix 16 and 17 patch notes at the end of January on Steam, with Larian saying it's still in the process of "restructuring to ensure that future updates on Mac will arrive alongside their PC versions," and that "it'll take a bit of time". The dev reiterated that the current delay between PC and Mac updates will be two weeks max.

So while there are some disgruntled Mac players having a whinge about the Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6 release date for their version of the game, the longest they'll have to wait is a fortnight while Larian does whatever it needs to do to sync the updates with PC. The studio did take to Twitter to say that Mac players will "need to sit tight a little longer until Patch 6 is ready to drop for them" and that it'll keep players updated on its progress.

As for Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6, it's set to be a beefy one regardless of where you play; the developer tweeted that the update will come in at 21GB and requires around 150GB of free space on PC and Steam Deck. If you're starting to sweat at the thought of squeezing that onto your hard drive, Larian suggests uninstalling the game and re-downloading the patched version.

We've rounded up a summary of what the developer has teased so far for Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6, making a list of early patch notes ahead of the drop. For the romantics (and downright depraved) among you, you'll be please to hear that kissing will be much improved. So watching characters getting frisky with each other will be even more enjoyable. Other highlights include new camp idle animations, new Legendary Actions in Honour Mode, and bug fixes – but you can find the full list of early Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6 notes we've dug up so far below.
