Dortmund coach hopes Haller can take Afcon momentum into Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic hopes that striker Sebastien Haller can raise his Bundesliga form after helping Ivory Coast win the Africa Cup of Nations.

Haller, who underwent treatment for testicular cancer after his 2022 arrival in Dortmund and was not a regular starter lately, scored winners in the semi-final against Democratic Republic of Congo and in the final against Nigeria on Sunday.

Terzic said on Thursday ahead of a weekend Bundesliga date at Wolfsburg that these heroics could help Haller at the club.

"We all know that that he's been through an extremely difficult phase. Now he's the celebrated hero. We hope that he will take the momentum with him and help us to play successful football," Terzic said.

Haller has returned to Dortmund and Terzic said he could be part of the squad for the Wolfsburg game.

"We will decide after a medical check-up and a talk whether he will come along. But it is looking quite good," Terzic said.

Forward Karim Adeyemi is sidelined with a muscle injury and full back Ramy Bensebaini only returned to training on Thursday.

Also missing, for months, is Felix Nmecha with a hip problem, and Terzic said it could take weeks until he returns.

Dortmund are fourth in Bundesliga ahead of Wolfsburg who have not won in six games and only two of their last 15 but Terzic warned that despite these results "they have a very good team."
