Pangbourne mum Mayawati Bracken was stabbed in chest and son Julian struck by high speed train, inquest opening told

A MOTHER was found fatally stabbed with her son dead on nearby railway tracks, a coroner has heard.

An inquest opening was held in Reading Town Hall on Thursday, February 15, into the deaths of Mayawati and Julian Bracken.

Fifty-six-year-old Mrs Bracken, known as Maya, was found in a Lexus car with a stab wound to the chest soon after 5.45pm on Thursday, January 4, on the A340 Tidmarsh Road at the junction with Flower's Hill in Pangbourne.

Assistant Berkshire coroner Alison McCormick said: “She received medical attention but sadly died at the scene.”

Mrs Bracken was formally identified by son Julian, said Ms McCormack.

A post mortem examination cited the provisional cause of death as shock and haemorrhage due to the chest wound to the chest, the hearing was told.

During a second, separate inquest opening, Ms McCormack said 18-year-old Julian Bracken, who lived with his mother at Chestnuts in Flowers Hill, Pangbourne, was found dead soon after Thames Valley Police and British Transport Police officers were called to reports of a body on railway tracks in Pangbourne.

Mr Bracken, who had been struck by a high speed train, was identified via medical records, the hearing was told.

The provisional cause of death was cited as multiple injuries.

Ms McCormack, having formally opened both inquests, adjourned them until a date to be fixed.
