BBC EastEnders fans left horrified over 'incest' blunder as writers 'forget' characters are related

EastEnders fans have pointed out an incredible 'incest blunder' in a storyline, suggesting that the 'writers forgot' that the pair were closely related by family.

In Thursday's episode, on February 15, there was the usual intrigue and plotting but this time a major flaw in the story has been exposed and fans of the BBC soap were quick to take to X, formerly Twitter, to share their concerns on the new twist in the storyline, which has taken the characters into dangerous territory.

While sitting in the cafe, Johnny Carter is seen talking to Ben Mitchell about Dean Wicks about how they could bring to a halt the trouble being caused to his mum, Linda. Dean has a recording of Linda admitting that she lied about him attacking her and they were working out how to get possession of this recording.

Ben told Johnny: "Find that recording saying that she lied." Johnny joked with his answer: "Yeah, yeah I'll just go ask him." To this Ben suggested: "Well give him a bit of the Johnny Carter charm." Johnny joked again, saying: "He's straight". This comes after he had come out to his father Mick Carter, nearly a decade ago.

Ben replied to Johnny's statement of fact by saying: "Well there's always a first." This comment sent EastEnders fans wild as they realised straight away that all would not be well if Johnny did try and crack on with Dean. An EastEnders fans Facebook group was flooded with comments as it was suggested that Dean was Johnny's uncle.

One soap fan pointed out that "writers forget who's related to who," as they said that Johnny's comment about Dean being straight should have been 'that's incest' as "that's his bio uncle." Another added that they had forgotten who was related to who in Walford, admitting: "I didn't even clock it while I was watching tbh everyone is related to everyone in Albert Square." A third fan was worried. asking: "Why is Ben suggesting to Johnny to flirt with his UNCLE?"

According to The Sun, Ben is set to leave Albert Square soon as bosses have decided against renewing the contract of actor Max Bowden, after he was disciplined "for his behaviour on set". A soap source told the media outlet: Max was called in for a chat by executives. He is an extremely talented actor and was always a real pro on set. However, there were concerns that his partying lifestyle away from the set could start to prove a distraction."

The BBC has since confirmed that Max would be leaving the soap, saying in a statement before the end of last year: "Max will be leaving EastEnders next year (2024). We wish him all the best for the future."
