The team working for the imprisoned Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny says it has not yet received direct confirmation of his death, announced by the Russian judiciary, according to TASS news agency.

No news has yet been received, Navalny's spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh said in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

So far, she said, there has only been a general notification from the prison system in the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous region about Navalny's death in the prison camp.

Navalny's lawyer is on his way to the IK-3 camp in the town of Kharp, north of the Arctic Circle. "As soon as we have information, we will report," Yarmysh said.
