Hillsborough County Firefighter Injured In Riverview Blaze With Exploding Cans

RIVERVIEW, Fla. - Hillsborough County Fire Rescue fought a structure fire at a house in Riverview Friday afternoon, and one firefighter was injured.

"Our Emergency Dispatch Center (EDC) took multiple calls at 1:13 P.M. from individuals reporting fire initially in the garage and then shortly after into the residence's second floor. They also stated bottles were exploding in the garage," said HCFR.

The first arriving unit confirmed heavy flames and smoke and pulled hose lines to attack the blaze from inside the house. The fire quickly grew to the residence's second floor and burned through the roof.

As the command prepared for aerial operations to suppress the flames, interior crews suppressed the fire on both floors, including the attic.

The resident had a pallet of aerosol cans in the garage, which exploded during the initial stages of the fire, sending shrapnel across the street.

Searches were conducted, and no residents were inside the home.

One firefighter sustained burns while conducting the search and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

There were no other injuries to civilians or first responders.

"Our Fire Investigations Unit is currently investigating the cause of the fire," said HCFR.
