Fabrizio Romano now shares latest update on Dan Ashworth’s Newcastle future amid Man United interest

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on the future of Dan Ashworth who now looks destined to leave Newcastle United for Manchester United.

Last week it was reported that Newcastle could demand upwards of £6m for their Sporting Director who has made it clear that he wants to join Man United.

Now, Romano is claiming that Man United will make a big push for Ashworth next week and that they are insisting on negotiations with Newcastle regarding the compensation.

Newcastle prepare to lose Ashworth

Ashworth looks destined to leave Newcastle in the near future, it is now just about what is the best deal that the Magpies can work out and how it will impact their long-term future.

The 52-year-old was one of the first names identified by the new ownership after hiring Eddie Howe as manager, but his departure will not be the end of the world for Newcastle who can find a suitable replacement.

Ashworth’s work behind the scenes at Newcastle has obviously been crucial, but he has had little to do with bringing in first-team signings and the impact that this will have won’t be obvious to see from your average football fan.

In Ashworth’s line of work you don’t typically see results from the work he’s done until five or 10 years down the line as he’s focused largely on building the academy and a recruitment team.

With Newcastle seemingly accepting they can’t keep their director, it will now be a matter of maximising their profits and making sure they find the best replacement for him.

On Ashworth, Romano said: “Manchester United are prepared to push again next week in order to bring Dan Ashworth to the club. Ashworth has already accepted, United will now insist in negotiations with Newcastle to agree on compensation. Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox, both on INEOS list for United.”

Newcastle’s long-term future is still very bright

Naturally, this whole situation has been blown up by the media as they claim it is a huge blow for Newcastle and a very positive signing for Man United’s new ownership.

There’s no questioning that Ashworth is good at his job and that’s exactly why he was brought into Newcastle in the first place, but as the club with the richest owners in football they’ll have no shortage of suitable replacements.

It has already been reported that prior to hiring Ashworth, the Magpies had a number of key figures in the running who have experience working at the highest level with Champions League clubs.

That should fill Newcastle supporters with confidence and make everybody realise that it shouldn’t really affect the long-term future of the club too much if they make the right appointments.
