‘If I had to pick’… Two ‘special’ Liverpool youngsters admit their idol is Cristiano Ronaldo

We all have a footballing idol. Growing up, there was always that one player who you used to look up to more than others. For many Liverpool supporters growing up in the 2000s that would’ve been Steven Gerrard or Fernando Torres.

For a later generation that may also have been Luis Suarez, and now likely Mohamed Salah. But there are others who look up to not just Liverpool players but the best in the world. Most young aspiring players will see Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the benchmark. Those two have set the standards for so many years, and are still very much at the top of their games even right now.

It’s unsurprising that for most young players coming through the ranks, Ronaldo and Messi would have been their footballing idol. And that is the case for two Liverpool youngsters as well, who have been asked that question recently.

Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas on Cristiano Ronaldo

Recently some of Liverpool’s young players were asked on Instagram by the account LFCDZN11 about who their footballing idol was growing up. Both Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas replied with the same answer being Ronaldo.

Koumas said: “Growing up it was always Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Meanwhile Danns replied with: “If I had to pick one, it would be CR7.”

Both Koumas and Danns are in great form at academy level this season. They have also both been described as ‘special’ talents by Jurgen Klopp earlier this month after Liverpool’s victory over Norwich City in the FA Cup.

As attacking players, there is clearly a lot to learn from Cristiano Ronaldo’s style of play. So, it’s good to see them looking up to the Portuguese star. We hope to see both of them emulating Ronaldo’s performances in the Premier League soon.
