'Looked like' – Gary Neville claims Man Utd star's performance vs Luton Town reminds him of monster Premier League player

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has paid tribute to Rasmus Hojlund after the Manchester United striker’s sensational Premier League performance against Luton Town on Sunday.

Rasmus Hojlund fired Manchester United into the lead inside the first minute before the Denmark striker completed his brace only six minutes later at Kenilworth Road.

The 21-year-old United star has now scored an impressive eight times in his last eight matches across all competitions for the Red Devils this season.

Hojlund faced mounting pressure earlier this season after he failed to score in his first 14 Premier League appearances for United following his move last summer.

However, the Denmark international has now entered a rich vein of form, with Hojlund impressing in the final third for Erik ten Hag’s men.

The former Atalanta man has taken his Premier League goalscoring tally to seven in 20 matches, as well as picking up two assists in the league this season.

Hojlund has found the back of the net in six of his last seven Premier League matches for United, with the Danish forward in his element for the Red Devils.

Neville on Man Utd star Hojlund

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has insisted that Rasmus Hojlund appeared like an Erling Haaland “in the making” after his performance against Luton Town.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, the Sky Sports pundit highlighted three important traits that Hojlund showed that were similar to Manchester City’s striker.

“Hojlund looked like a Haaland in the making – that power, that strength and aggression in his running,” Neville said.

“I’ve always like that about a Manchester United centre-forward.”

Neville added: “The second half was better than the first, it was a considered performance, more measured.

“[Jonny] Evans and [Raphael] Varane looked composed and the midfield took control of the game.

“They had four big chances, well done to Thomas Kaminski – he did really well.”

Ten Hag talks Hojlund’s performance

United remain undefeated since the start of 2024 and have won six of their last seven matches across all competitions.

Ten Hag’s men have won four consecutive Premier League matches and are five points adrift from the top four, with United finding serious momentum this month.

Speaking after the 2-1 win against Luton Town, Ten Hag praised Hojlund’s stunning run of form and called the United striker a “fighter” and “determined.”

“We are very happy with our recruitment, but we need the right characters because he can perform under stress,” he said at his post-match press conference.

“When things go against him like in the first half of the season, he has the abilities and the character to be resilient.

“He is determined to score goals and that is what we scouted him. He needed some support, as it is not easy when you are young. But in general, he kept calm and you can see his abilities.

“I want to also mention that in the start he didn’t have some luck. He scored some goals, for instance, the one against Brighton and it was disallowed and nobody knows why.

“Those moments are important, especially when you come into a new league, especially for a striker to build some confidence.

“He is a fighter and he keeps going and he has great abilities in front of goal.”
