'It was' – Erik ten Hag's six-word response on Man Utd star's current status after Luton Town match says it all

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an update on Luke Shaw after the England left-back came off in the 2-1 win over Luton Town on Sunday.

Rasmus Hojlund’s stunning brace inside the opening 10 minutes sealed an important three Premier League points for Manchester United at Kenilworth Road.

Luton Town fought back against United in the Premier League tie and didn’t make life easy for Erik ten Hag’s men, with Carlton Morris scoring in the 14th minute.

Luke Shaw was withdrawn after 45 minutes in United’s 2-1 Premier League win against Aston Villa at Villa Park earlier this month.

Ten Hag had claimed that the 28-year-old United left-back had been taken off as a precaution against Villa, despite initial scares of a potential injury to Shaw.

Shaw made his return to the starting XI for United against Luton Town, but the England international was only able to feature in the first half for the Red Devils.

Ten Hag on Man Utd star Shaw

Luke Shaw was unable to continue playing against Luton Town – similar to the Aston Villa clash – and was replaced by Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

United boss Erik ten Hag insisted that Three Lions star Shaw had not suffered a knock in the 2-1 win over Luton Town.

Speaking at his post-match press conference (via Manchester United’s official website), he said: “It was not a knock, no.”

In the immediate aftermath of the match, Ten Hag was quizzed on Shaw and the Dutchman admitted at the time he wasn’t sure if the United full-back was injured.

When asked by BBC Radio 5 Live about a potential injury to Shaw, he said: “I can’t tell.

“We have to wait minimum until tomorrow to see what’s going on.

“Clear, when you come off, it doesn’t look great.”

Man Utd need Shaw fully fit

United are enjoying a consistent run of results and a potential injury knock to Shaw could seriously derail the Red Devils’ momentum amid their top-four push.

Tyrell Malacia is still unavailable and Sergio Reguilon was sent back to Tottenham in January, leaving Shaw as the club’s only fully fit left-back at the moment.

Shaw has been an important figure in the United backline and the England international has offered much-needed stability in defence.

Ten Hag has deployed Lindelof as a makeshift left-back for United this season, but the United defender struggled in his performance against Aston Villa this month.

United fans can – for now at least – breathe a sigh of relief over Shaw’s current status after Ten Hag’s update at his post-match press conference.
