Striker linked with West Ham in January tears ACL for 3rd time in 5 years

A striker who was linked with a West Ham move in January has torn his ACL for the 3rd time in 5 years it has been confirmed.

A lot of the talk since the January window closed has centered around players West Ham failed to sign.

West Ham fans, pundits and journalists have been critical of the club stating the squad is now weaker than it was before the winter window.

But while reinforcements were clearly needed, sometimes it works out for the best.

The Hammers were linked with a host of forwards last month.

And according to a report from Sport1, West Ham were interested in signing giant Wolves hitman Sasa Kalajdzic.

Not for the first time either. Because Kalajdzic is a player David Moyes reportedly chased before he moved to Molineux.

In the end, though, he joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan along with another longstanding Hammers target Hugo Ekitike.

Many West Ham fans feel the club is cursed when it comes to injuries and strikers. So they will be relieved the club did not push to bring in Kalajdzic.

Alleged Hammers target ‘out indefinitely’

West Ham’s former European foes Frankfurt said on Monday that Kalajdzic tore the cruciate and lateral ligaments in his right knee during the team’s 3-3 draw at Freiburg on Sunday.

The club said he will be “out indefinitely.”

It is the forward’s second such injury in 18 months.

Te alleged West Ham target signed for Wolves in 2022 – but suffered the same injury to his left knee on his debut, an injury that ruled him out for a lengthy period.

It is never nice to hear things like this. The Austrian could well have been playing for the Hammers right now.

From West Ham’s point of view it will feel like a disaster averted.

But spare a thought for the 26-year-old who now faces at least another nine months to a year on the sidelines.
