M86 Chronicle: Heroic defense of Mariupol unveiled in Kyiv

М86. Chronicle of the Defense of Mariupol

It provides a chronology of the heroic defense of the Ukrainian city, documented from the testimonies of the military.

This chronicle marks day-by-day chronicles of the struggle for Mariupol at the onset of the Russian full-scale invasion, based on the testimonies of the defenders, spanning from Feb. 24 to May 20, 2022, when city defenders left Azovstal as per command orders.

“Every great battle deserves to be celebrated and immortalized in cultural artifacts,” said Denys “Redis” Prokopenko, Lt. Colonel Commander of the 12th Azov Special Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard.

“The book you’re reading is one of the first and remarkably successful attempts to depict this epic, documenting the 86-day defense of Mariupol. The detailed account of those events is the first step towards profound understanding and unveiling the phenomenon of dedication and bravery that made this battle possible.”

The chronicle is more than a documented record of events, it serves as an advocacy tool for the return of prisoners, with Mariupol defenders actively participating in its creation.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy said that one of the main authors of the chronicle is a journalist using the pseudonym Mariupol Sector, whose identity remains undisclosed for security reasons, as their relatives are still in occupied territory.
