Air Serbia Cuts Ties With Marathon Airlines After Aircraft Incident

Air Serbia has announced the termination of its partnership with Marathon Airlines following an incident involving a Marathon Airlines Embraer E195 aircraft during flight JU324 from Belgrade to Dusseldorf on Sunday evening, February 18. The decision comes as a response to damages incurred to the aircraft during the flight.

The incident was promptly reported to the appropriate authorities, including the Civil Aviation Directorate (DCV) of the Republic of Serbia and the Center for Investigation of Accidents in Transport (CINS). Additionally, Marathon Airlines will conduct its own investigation in collaboration with Greek aviation authorities.

Regardless of the investigation’s outcome, Air Serbia is discontinuing its cooperation with Marathon Airlines. Flights originally scheduled on Marathon Airlines aircraft will be replaced to ensure uninterrupted service continuity. Air Serbia has committed to refraining from disclosing details of the investigation until its conclusion.

Partnered since June 2023, Air Serbia and Marathon Airlines operated under a short-term wet-lease business model, a common practice among European and global companies.

Air Serbia extends its apologies to all passengers aboard JU324, recognizing the discomfort experienced during the flight. Passengers will receive standard compensation for any costs incurred due to the one-day delay, including a full refund for the flight.

Despite the incident, the flight successfully landed without injuries to passengers or crew members, prioritizing safety above all.
