N.J. passenger killed when car runs off interstate, hits concrete barrier

One man was killed after a car ran off Interstate 80 in Bergen County and struck a concrete barrier early Saturday, New Jersey State Police said.

A 40-year-old Hasbrouck Heights man was driving eastbound on I-80 in Teaneck shortly after 3 a.m. when he lost control of the car, which ran off the roadway to the right side and hit the barrier, a police spokesman said.

A passenger in the car, Richard Bahamonte, 38, of Hillside, was killed in the wreck, according to police, while the driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, officials said Sunday, and additional details were not released.
