'Something's changed': Pundit says he didn't expect what's happened to Arsenal player in the last few games

Robbie Mustoe has suggested that something appears to have changed in one Arsenal player over the last few weeks, and it has been somewhat unexpected.

The Gunners definitely appear to be a different animal right now. Coming out of the January transfer window, many would have wondered whether Arsenal had missed a trick not signing a striker last month.

In the Premier League however, Mikel Arteta‘s men have won four from four, scoring 18 and conceding just two. It is a run of form which has seen the Gunners make a real statement in the title race.

Something has clicked for Kai Havertz at Arsenal

Kai Havertz has now scored in both of his last two league appearances. The 24-year-old has led the line. And he looks to be going some way towards silencing his doubters.

Only Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard have scored more goals than Havertz in the top-flight this season. And it would definitely appear that Havertz has found his best role as something of a number nine for Arsenal.

For many, that has been on the cards ever since Havertz shone in the first-half of the Community Shield back in August. But speaking on The 2 Robbies, Robbie Mustoe suggested that something really appears to have clicked for the Germany international in this recent run.

“Something’s changed in Havertz in the last two or three weeks. And I tell you what’s changed, he now has become an aggressive, physical, hardworking number nine. Whether it’s him or the manager, the number eight or the number 10, the fancy footballer getting in the box scoring goals hasn’t quite worked. It’s not as much as reinventing himself, but I think he’s thought how can I really be effective? And he’s gone with work and with physicality and closing. Fans love that stuff,” he said.

“He got his goal, and it’s amazing how good things happen when you have that mentality to run around, to close down. Is it just me? It’s not just that Kai Havertz has come good, he’s come good in an unexpected way of the way he’s been effective for the team. And long may that continue.”

Mikel Arteta faces a potential selection dilemma

It is going to be interesting to see what Mikel Arteta does once Gabriel Jesus is back to full fitness. Jesus brings so much to the Arsenal side. But he is not prolific in front of goal.

Havertz has found the back of the net more often in the Premier League. And on current form, it would be a big call to drop the summer signing to get the Brazilian back into the side.

Certainly, plenty of Arsenal fans would surely be very happy to see Havertz keep his place in the coming games.
