New Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl aims to prepare Bayern for a successful future, but stressed he's not a "saviour."

"I'm not a saviour. I'm a guy who wants to get stuck in, and can and wants to work very well in a team. I need the expertise of the people around me," Eberl said during his official presentation on Tuesday.

"Of course, the task list is very large, but it gives me great pleasure. It's simply fun, you realize that everyone is pulling together to set Bayern up for a successful future," he added.

Bayern said on Monday that Eberl will become the club's new board member for sport from March 1. A native Bavarian who used to play for the club's amateur team in the 1990s, he replaces Hasan Salihamidzic, who was sacked at the end of last season.

The long-serving sporting director of Borussia Mönchengladbach was most recently at RB Leipzig. But he was dismissed in September after a short spell, with the club criticizing his commitment.

"Max played for Bayern for almost 15 years, he knows the club's DNA. With Max, we're gaining someone who brings a great deal of expertise to the board," CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said.

Eberl's first order of business will be finding a new head coach. Last week, Bayern said that they will part ways with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the current season.

"We want to find a coach who fits in with Bayern Munich, including the ideas of (sporting director) Christoph Freund and myself. We need stars, but we also need young, hungry talent," he said,

Eberl stressed, however, that for now, his focus is on the remaining three months of the season, which Bayern risks ending without a title for the first time in more than a decade.

The Bavarians are already out of the Cup and sit second in the Bundesliga, eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. In the Champions League, there are down 1-0 in their last 16 tie with Lazio.

"The aim is to get the best out of this season. There are enough games left in the Bundesliga and we are also in the hunt in the Champions League. In the summer, we need to build a squad together with Christoph Freund. I'm here to win titles," he said.
