James Comer throws insults at reporter asking him what crime Joe Biden committed

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer

Hunter Biden arrived on Capitol Hill Wednesday to answer questions about whether his father benefited financially from his international business — just days after the GOP's top witness was arrested and charged with lying to the FBI about the investigation.

The development involving ex-FBI informant Alexander Smirnov has is considered by some as the point the case against the president collapsed, as Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) put it.

So, it didn't go well when NBC News reporter Ryan Nobles pressed House Oversight and Reform Committee chair, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), to explain what President Joe Biden did that met the constitutional standard of "high crimes and misdemeanors."

"It also comes at an important time in this impeachment inquiry," Nobles said to MSNBC host Ana Cabrara. "We've really reached an inflection point with Republicans with a degree of fatigue amongst rank and file Republicans concerned that this impeachment inquiry frankly hasn't delivered the goods that many of these impeachment investigators had promised."

Specifically, he explained, Republicans have failed to make a financial link between Hunter Biden, the president's brother James Biden and Joe Biden.

Nobles explained that he pressed Comer "on that exact point earlier before this deposition took place."

"There was no evidence that Joe Biden did anything," Nobles said to Comer, who cut him off.

"He got $200,000 from —" Comer said before Nobles interrupted him.

The $200,000 Comer mentioned was a personal loan Joe Biden made to his brother, earlier testimony explained. James Biden then repaid him.

Republicans say that since James Biden is doing work with various businesses, the fact that he paid his brother is suspect. Bank records show that Joe Biden gave his brother the loan six weeks prior to being repaid. The memo line of the check reads "loan repayment."

"What did he, as a public official —" Nobles cut in as Comer spoke over him.

"Jim Biden said — no, listen," ordered Comer.

"You can defend Joe Biden all day long," Comer said, calling Nobles part of the liberal media.

"You can be on his legal defense team," Comer fumed. "Kevin Morris would probably play your legal bills."

"What specific action did he take as a public official, an elected public official that — if you have that evidence, present it," said Nobles.

"Calm down. It's okay. It's okay," Comer replied.

Nobles explained to MSNBC, "Aside from the chairman calling me names, as you note that he didn't actually answer the question, that they have yet to demonstrate specifically something that Joe Biden did as president or vice president that would benefit his son's business dealings.

"But there are questions about the relationship and the way that Hunter Biden may have used his father's name around the world to gain access to business contracts that he might not otherwise have had."

He went on to say that it's a tough bar for the GOP to clear. Each time Comer is questioned about how it rises to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors," he makes other Republicans start to question the impeachment.

"It's something that they're going to really need to hope they can garner up through this lengthy deposition that's scheduled to take place here today," Nobles closed.
