Belgium to allocate $217 million for ammunition purchases outside EU

The plan, publicly outlined by Czech President Petr Pavel, can deliver up to 800,000 artillery shells of various calibers to Ukraine in a matter of weeks.

“We can never match the sacrifice Ukraine is making every day,” the Belgian leader said.

“But we can give President Volodymyr Zelenskyy what he requested — more ammunition to fend off the Russian aggressor. Belgium will fund the Czech initiative for EUR 200 million.”

On Feb. 26, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Western allies of Ukraine will compile a list of third countries that could supply shells for the Ukrainian military.

On Feb. 17, Czech President Petr Pavel announced that the country had found hundreds of thousands of artillery shells abroad that could be transferred to Ukraine if funding were available.
