Former President Donald Trump has dominated the field of Republican candidates vying to get the party's nomination for the 2024 election.

Trump faces onlyNikki Haley in the primary race to secure the GOP nomination and has witnessed a large lead in election polls and at physical polling locations in primaries.

What Happened: Haley remained the only challenger for Trump to secure the GOP nomination in the 2024 presidential election after Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy dropped out after the first state held its primary vote.

Trump won and dominated the early-voting states of New Hampshire, Iowa and Nevada.

The former president also won the states of South Carolina and Michiganover the past week. Both of those state elections happened during or after polling was conducted by Morning Consult.

Here's a look at who Republican voters selected in the latest Morning Consult poll, with the percentage from last week in parentheses.

Donald Trump: 81% (81%)

Nikki Haley: 18% (18%)

Someone Else: 1% (2%)

Why It's Important: Trump's lead over Haley remained at 63 points ahead of the votes in South Carolina and Michigan.

Trump's lead has been fairly consistent in the 62 to 63 points range since Ramaswamy and DeSantis dropped out. Given the results of Michigan and South Carolina, the next Morning Consult poll could be one that could show how much support Haley has lost as she has failed to win any states.

Trump won South Carolina 59.8% to 39.5% and won Michigan 68.1% to 26.6%. South Carolina, which is Haley's home state, was widely seen as one that she needed to win or come close to victory to keep her campaign viable.

Haley's favorability rating improved slightly in the latest poll with 46% of voters viewing the candidate favorably versus 39% who said they view her negatively, compared to 43% and 38% respectively in the previous poll.

Haley made it clear she plans to stay in the race until at least Super Tuesday. It was recently announced that some big donors arestopping their financing of Haley's campaign, which could be a major blow.

On Super Tuesday (March 5), Republicans in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia will all go to the polls.

This represented the largest total of states and delegates available to the candidates, with around 36% of the 2024 primary delegates up for grabs.

A recent poll of voters in key Super Tuesday states saw Trump significantly ahead of Haley, with the former South Carolina governor failing to get more than 28% support in eight key Super Tuesday states.

The next Morning Consult poll could look completely different and the number of polls conducted for the Republican candidates could be nearing an end.
