14-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Shot In Plant City

PLANT CITY, Fla. - The Plant City Police Department is investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy and injured a second victim.

Police say around 1:00 am on Thursday, officers responded to a local hospital after a 14-year-old male was brought to the hospital with upper body trauma and later passed away

The second victim who sustained upper body trauma is an 18-year-old male. Both victims were transported to South Florida Baptist Hospital.

"22-year-old Abraham Melendez, the victim, and others drove to the area of West House Street and Lakewood Avenue with the intent to commit a robbery of persons known to them," said Plant City Police.

Police say Melendez transported both gunshot victims to South Florida Baptist Hospital.

Detectives charged Melendez with several crimes, and he was booked into the Orient Road Jail. Detectives continue to follow up leads.
