'Not a good look': Military leader accused of violating policy with Trump stunt

Donald Trump went to the border on Thursday, promising to "fix" it but without providing his specific plans as to how.

Still, it wasn't his plans that were drawing attention. In a speech, Trump also rambled about illegal immigrants who "don't speak languages."

There were some criticisms of Trump's speech, including by those who say they saw visible disgust on the face of a serviceman near the ex-president.

Bulwark writer Joe Perticone pointed out that to be seen with Trump during this "racist" speech was "not the best look" for a top military official.

"Not the best look for Maj. Gen. Thomas Suelzer on Trump's shoulder, nodding along in uniform while a political candidate goes on a racist tirade at a lectern displaying his campaign's fundraising number," Perticone wrote.

Ret. Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling pointed out just how bad a look it really was.

"For those who may not understand, MajGen Suelzer is The Adjutant General of the Texas Guard," he wrote Thursday. "USAFA Class of 90 & a C5 pilot, he left active duty in 2007, joined the Air Nat’l Guard. TAGs are political appointees & get their ranks/positions from their Governor. Abbott’s his boss."

Someone on Hertling's post said, "Appreciate the clarification but still seems like not a good look at a political event."

Hertling then replied, "It’s not. And it’s against DOD policy."
