‘Absolutely’: Pundit suggests Liverpool have a player who’s been even better than Mo Salah this year

We’re heading into the business end of the Premier League season, and it’s time to start discussing who has been the Player of the Year.

There’s, of course, still some way to run this season, but we’re way past the halfway point now, and these conversations can start to happen.

Speaking on ESPN, Shaka Hislop and Steve Nicol have been discussing who their Player of the Year is at this point of the season, and they both agree that one Liverpool player is the standout candidate.

Mohamed Salah may be the Reds’ top scorer so far this season, but according to the two ESPN pundits, Virgil van Dijk has been the best player in the Premier League so far this season.

Virgil van Dijk should be Player of the Year

The two pundits shared their verdict on the Dutchman.

“Oh, Manager of the Year would be Jurgen Klopp, Player of the year would be Van Dijk,” Hislop said.

‘Stevie do you agree? The same?” Nicol was asked.

“Absolutely,” Nicol added.

Incredible

It’s so hard to disagree with what Nicol and Hislop are saying here.

Van Dijk has been utterly incredible this season. He’s been back to his very best and he’s played a huge part in Liverpool’s ascension to the top of the Premier League.

In all honesty, Mohamed Salah has probably been more impactful for Liverpool when he has played, but the Egyptian hasn’t played regularly for the Reds since the turn of the year due to injuries and international commitments, so Van Dijk does have the edge on that front.

Come the end of the season, Van Dijk could well be lifting his second Premier League trophy and his second PFA Player of the Year award.
