The Canadian broke into F1 with Williams back in 2017, with Stroll enjoying his debut at that year’s Australian GP. It was not a debut to remember, however, as a brake issue forced him to retire. But Stroll also stood on his debut podium in 2017 at the Azerbaijan GP with third place.
Stroll further showcased his talents at the 2017 Italian GP by qualifying fourth on the grid in extreme rain at Monza. While a wet qualifying session at the 2020 Turkish GP also saw Stroll claim his maiden pole position with Racing Point, having left Williams after the 2018 season.
Lance Stroll jumped straight from his F3 Euro title into F1
Williams put Stroll through an extensive testing programme to prepare the Canadian for his Formula 1 debut. He was the second-youngest driver to, so far, ever race in the pinnacle of motorsport. Stroll was 18 years, 4 months and 26 days old when he debuted in Melbourne.
It also marked a quick rise by the youngster as Stroll jumped straight from winning the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European Championship title into Formula 1. He offered lots of early promise in single-seaters, having also taken the 2014 Italian F4 and 2015 Toyota Racing Series titles.
His Italian F4 success even came in Stroll’s first season in single-seaters, much like his early success in karting. Stroll took Micro Max class honours in the Coupe de Quebec, Coupe de Montreal and Canadian National Karting Championships in his first year in go-karts in 2008.

Stroll and his family also relocated to Geneva, Switzerland when he was 12 to begin racing in Europe and internationally. He also took third in the Trofeo Grifone, KF3 class as a rookie. But he only won one further title in karting in the 2012 SKUSA SuperNationals, TaG Junior class.
What Stroll achieved in karting caught the interest of Ferrari, however. He was a part of the Ferrari Driver Academy from 2010 to 2015 but left the Scuderia stable to join Williams as a development driver. Ferrari signed Stroll when he was only 11 years old and still in Canada.
