This election season, at least one California county will host the nation's first transgender voting center.

"It's a groundbreaking example of leaders in our state working to ensure that every Californian, regardless of gender identity or expression, has a safe and welcoming space to exercise their right to vote," Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis said during a press conference on Thursday.

According to CBS News, the Connie Norman Transgender Empowerment Center, located in the 1000 block of North Martel Street in Los Angeles, will house the facility.

All voters are welcome, but the organizers want to make sure that the transgender, non-binary, and LGBTQA+ communities have a 'safe and affirming space,' Kounalakis said at the briefing.

“By providing a safe and affirming space for the transgender community to exercise their fundamental right to vote, we are breaking down barriers and ensuring every Californian has equal access to the ballot box,” Kounalakis said.

It will act as a polling place for the general election in November and be open from March 2 to March 5.

For transgender persons in the county, the center has offered extensive resources, education, counseling, and medical care since 2021.
