Predicted Leeds United XI to face Huddersfield: Six changes as 23-year-old passed fit, £7m man starts

Leeds United face a swift return to league action with a trip to Huddersfield Town tomorrow lunchtime.

The Whites were only in action away in London on Wednesday night as their FA Cup journey came to an end with a hard-fought 3-2 defeat at Chelsea.

Daniel Farke was unhappy with the scheduling of both of these matches and so has always had one eye on the West Yorkshire derby on Saturday, which saw him make changes to his starting XI in midweek.

Georginio Rutter and Ilia Gruev were among those to miss out completely, but could both return with the former having been passed fit, and the latter set to have a late call made on him.

So, with that in mind, here is our predicted XI for the match.

Goalkeeper

Illan Meslier is one of five players who keeps his place from the defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Defence

Archie Gray produced an incredible performance in midfield on Wednesday and Farke will no doubt be tempted to hand him another start there in the league.

However, a nine-match winning run would suggest it has been working with him at right-back, and so he starts there again, with Junior Firpo getting the nod ahead of Sam Byram on the other flank.

Like Gray, Ethan Ampadu was also in midfield at Chelsea but will almost certainly be back in central defence again alongside Joe Rodon.

Midfield

Farke seemed pretty hopeful that Gruev would be fit for Saturday’s match providing he came through today’s team training session unscathed.

As such, the 23-year-old is likely to return to the starting XI alongside Glen Kamara, who was also handed a nice rest in midweek.

Attack

The entire front four could well be changed despite some excellent performances from both Jaidon Anthony and Mateo Joseph at Chelsea, who combined for both goals.

They are both likely to make way for Crysencio Summerville and £7m man Patrick Bamford, with Rutter and Willy Gnonto also replacing Joel Piroe and Dan James.

Predicted XI: Meslier; Gray, Rodon, Ampadu, Firpo; Gruev, Kamara; Gnonto, Rutter, Summerville; Bamford
