French pole vaulter fractures ankle but vows to be at Paris Olympics

French pole vaulter Margot Chevrier has set her sights on the home Olympics in Paris in summer despite suffering a severe ankle injury at the world indoor championships in Glasgow.

Chevrier sustained an open ankle fracture upon landing after failing to clear 4.65 metres. She screamed in pain and underwent lengthy treatment on site before being taken to hospital.

From there she posted early Sunday on Instagram, showing a picture of herself with the left lower leg and foot in a cast and the words "Paris 24, I'll jump" written higher up on her thigh.

She said an operation was planned to take place in Scotland at mid-day Sunday, and another one in France upon her return. The Paris Olympics start on July 26.

"It will take as long as it is necessary. Paris 2024. I will be there," she said.

Chevrier finished eighth with 4.55m in Saturday's competition won by Briton Molly Caudery with 4.80m.
