New Furies series streaming on Netflix

Furies is a French action-thriller TV series that premiered exclusively on Netflix on Friday, March 1st 2024.

Made up of eight episodes, it blends classic crime and revenge sub-genre tropes to tell the story of a woman seeking to avenge her father’s death. Determined to bring justice, she becomes involved in the web of the Fury, the peacekeeper of Paris’ network of criminals.

Navigating an underworld of crime and violence, will she succeed in exacting retribution?

Rated TV-MA, the show boasts some unflinching action sequences, compelling characters and an outlandish narrative. You can check out the trailer to see if it’s for you:

Furies on Netflix compared to John Wick

One of the main existing properties Furies has been compared to is John Wick, the action-revenge franchise which stars Keanu Reeves as a hitman who’s forced out of retirement when his home is invaded.

Some have admired the echoes of the acclaimed action movie franchise to be found here. “In John Wick mode, [Furies is] a fast-paced, thrilling, quality action web series,” one fan praised.

On the other hand, some have argued that it suffers from close parallels but manages to come through regardless. “Finished Furies on Netflix,” a viewer began tweeting. “It suffers from being in the shadow of John Wick but once you put that aside you get caught up in it. It’s very honest in setting up its universe and its ambitions. I find some criticisms very harsh.”

More critical, another wrote: “We understand the intention, which is noble (to make a French John Wick), but it’s so poorly played.”

One regarded it as a “feminine John Wick” that’s helped by “slick production and casting”, although it’s hindered and could’ve moved “to the next level by bypassing the quests to be solved.”

Furies is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
