The three Gers dangermen Clement could have back for next league game

One of the most obvious issues apparent from the dismal defeat to Motherwell was that Rangers forward line was clearly bereft of players who can be relied upon to make a difference due to injury.

Cyriel Dessers has been in good form under Gers boss Phillipe Clement but we have seen that type of performance before from the 29-year old, he rarely starts poorly and then improves.

It wasn’t just the striker that was culpable though and it is clear that Clement has to find a way of getting as many goalscorers as possible into his Rangers starting XI to avoid a repeat.

Rangers desperate for final third quality to return

There isn’t another league game for two weeks which is frustrating in that the squad will want to put right the wrongs of Saturday’s loss but it also gives those who are missing a bit more time to recover.

Next up is Dundee away and, hopefully, we should see an entirely different and more potent forward line than one featuring two wingers with just two goals between them – all of them coming from Ross McCausland.

Speaking after the game, Philippe Clement revealed that Rabbi Matondo is back in training, he also explained that Benfica will come too soon, however, the Scottish Cup tie with Hibernian next weekend could see him make a welcome return.

A week later and we should also have Todd Cantwell who has been a big miss in the last two games.

The injury news gets even better when you consider that Abdallah Sima will have been training on grass for two full weeks by the next time we play in the league.

How we could do with the 15-goal winger being fit and available again, even if seeing him in the same team as Oscar Cortes seems unlikely now.

That the only positive that can be taken from yesterday is that it can’t get much worse, tells you everything you need to know.
