American Idol judge follows in mom's footsteps with 'weird' choice on set

It’s safe to say American Idol viewers were left equalling impressed and confused after some of the ABC show’s auditions this March. In a sneak peek of the upcoming episode, fans were given a glimpse into some of the talent they can expect to see singing. They also got to see Luke Bryan receiving an IV which left some people baffled.

Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie have made up the American Idol judging panel for the past six years. The trio joined the show for its ABC revival in season 16. Fans have become well-acquainted with Lionel, Luke, and Katy. But, the California Girls singer revealed this could be her last season on the show this year.

Luke Bryan gets an IV

While many talent show fans are used to seeing judges shed a tear, join in with performances, or deliver savage feedback, viewers are likely less prepared to see a cast member of the show get an IV on set.

During Aniston Pate’s audition, Luke received some fluids via IV which left many people confused.

One person commented on the sneak peek video to ask why fans would need to see the judge getting an IV, adding: “This is why the show is so scripted.”

Luke follows in mom’s footsteps

Judging by Luke’s Instagram posts, an IV drip is nothing out of the ordinary.

Throwing it back to last year and the ABC show judge shows his mom also getting a health kick along with a martini, and a salad.

Luke wished his mom a “Happy Mother’s Day” as she posed in a robe and toasted her glass.

Fans dub move ‘weird’

Following Luke’s eye-catching IV moment, some American Idol viewers have called the on-set move “weird.”

One tweeted via X (Twitter): “Katy and Luke do some… weird things.”

However, others disagreed, writing how they quite enjoyed the moment: “American Idol is fun tonight between you and Luke Bryan’s Vitamin IV!”
