Former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola should be seen as references as the club searches for a new a coach.

The two former Bayern coaches have impressed Rummenigge during their respective terms with the team for their passion and self-sacrifice.

"We have to find that coach again, who looks after the club with the same dedication as Jupp and Pep did. That's the benchmark, it's going to be difficult," Rummenigge, who's currently a member of the club's supervisory board, told the TOMorrow Business & Style podcast released on Monday.

Bayern have recently said that they will part ways with Thomas Tuchel in summer. The German record champions risk finishing the season without a title for the first time in more than a decade.

With Heynckes, Bayern won all titles in 2012–13, setting various Bundesliga records along the way and becoming the first German team to win the treble.

Under Guardiola, the club won three consecutive Bundesliga titles (2014, 2015 and 2016) and the Club World Cup in 2013.

Rummenigge admitted that the chemistry between the team and Tuchel was not ideal. He spoke of a "fit between coach and team, which is not what we would have liked at the moment. Accordingly, there will be changes."

New board member for sport Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund will face a difficult task to find a good coach, as they "don't grow on trees," Rummenigge said. But the former Bayern CEO is convinced that the duo will find the best solution.

"The club is now well positioned for the future," he said.
