'What you wouldn't have seen': Sky broadcaster shares what ten Hag said about Rashford before Manchester derby

Sky broadcaster Lynsey Hooper has shared what Erik ten Hag said in an interview about Marcus Rashford ahead of the Manchester derby, which proved to be quite interesting given how the game at the Etihad Stadium started for Manchester United.

Manchester United were huge underdogs for the clash against the Premier League champions. Once again, Pep Guardiola’s side appear to be in the mood to string a long list of victories together. And Erik ten Hag continues to have his doubters at Old Trafford.

Another person who went to the Etihad with a point to prove was Marcus Rashford. Some feel Rashford now needs to leave Old Trafford with his career stagnating.

But he could have hardly asked for a better start against City. It was Rashford who put the visitors 1-0 up with an incredible strike from distance.

And speaking on Seaman Says, Hooper suggested that the goal may not have come as a big surprise to ten Hag given what he has said in an interview in the days leading up to the game.

“Interestingly, I was lucky enough to sit down with Erik ten Hag ahead of this Manchester derby,” she said.

“There was an interview that went out on Soccer Saturday, but what you wouldn’t have seen, because obviously, we don’t have time to include everything, was I asked him about special goals in Manchester derbies. And I was saying, do you think there’s going to be another one? He went, ‘well, I can’t really predict that, but all I know is that Rashford likes to score at the Etihad especially’.”

Both sides of forward’s game on show

Leicester City are now the only team Rashford has scored more often against than Manchester City. His goal on Sunday was his sixth against the Cityzens in 20 games.

Unfortunately, his overall performance reminded everyone of why there has been a lot of criticism of the England international this season.

Rashford was poor over the remainder of the game. And he was heavily criticised after going down too easily when seemingly through on goal during the second-half.

The forward’s talent is undeniable. However, there has to be a serious question mark now over whether he will ever realise his full potential.
