'Unbelievable': Freddie Ljungberg says Man City have a player who can do something just like Lionel Messi

Freddie Ljungberg believes Manchester City have a player who reminds him of Lionel Messi.

Manchester City kept their great form going on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Manchester United to go 19 games unbeaten.

Marcus Rashford gave the neighbours a surprising lead with a rocket of a strike but City fought back thanks to a stunning Phil Foden brace.

Erling Haaland added a third late on to secure three points and ensure Pep Guardiola’s side kept the pressure on league leaders Liverpool ahead of their match on Sunday.

However, it was Foden who earned most of the plaudits thanks to his decisive display and Freddie Ljungberd is the latest to praise him.

The Arsenal legend went as far as to compare one thing Foden does with the game’s greatest player, Lionel Messi.

Freddie Ljungberg on Phil Foden

Speaking on Optus Sport’s The Final Word, Ljungberg said on Foden: “His left foot is unbelievable.

He can do anything he wants, I say it’s Messi-like, he can do whatever he wants, flicks it inside or outside.

“He is a top player.”

Phil Foden continues to impress

It’s not the first time Foden has been likened to Messi and it likely won’t be the last with the way he is going.

He is still just 23 but already has six years of first team experience under his belt, has won all there is to win and is still getting better.

Foden is enjoying his best season yet on the pitch, already breaking his best goal contribution tally, and is becoming relied upon more and more by Guardiola.

It’s hard to say if anyone will ever be as good as Messi again but it certainly doesn’t hinder Foden to try and get there.
