Report: Newcastle have now decided to offer 'unusual' 27-year-old player a pay rise

Newcastle United star Joelinton could soon see his Toon wish come true.

The 27-year-old is currently out of action after undergoing thigh surgery, but could be back playing before the current season comes to an end.

However, the biggest concern regarding Joelinton is his long-term future at St James’ Park. That is because his contract expires in 2025, meaning the Magpies either need to give him a new deal or sell him this summer to avoid losing him for nothing.

There had initially been suggestions that contract negotiations had stalled, hinting that the Brazilian might actually have to leave this summer.

But there has now been an update on the situation, with Amanda Staveley taking over negotiations after Dan Ashworth was placed on gardening leave. Progress is now being made, and the midfielder is suddenly much more likely to sign a new deal.

That is excellent news, and the Chronicle have provided some fresh details about the discussions.

Newcastle to offer Joelinton more money as contract talks continue

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United will be offering Joelinton a ‘significant’ pay rise to convince him to remain on Tyneside.

They add that negotiations are going in the right direction, which certainly was not the case earlier this year.

As is often the case, money appears to have been the main issue. With Joelinton considered a key player at Newcastle, he wanted his wages to reflect that.

It appears that his financial wish will be coming true, with the Magpies now willing to make him one of the top earners at St James’ Park.

That is a great decision, as replacing Joelinton would have been incredibly difficult. He is so unique, with Eddie Howe recently describing him as ‘unusual’. He meant it in a positive way, and it highlighted how special the Toon number seven is.

It is clear how important Joelinton is to Newcastle United. You would struggle to find another player in world football who can replicate what he brings in black and white, which is why the club are right to meet his financial demands.

A pay rise is on the way, and hopefully it is not long before we get official confirmation of Joelinton signing a new contract.
