N.J. man arrested in alleged plot to steal 675 pieces of SpaceX tech

The Lawrence Township Police Department recovered 223 of 675 SpaceX Starlink Terminals allegedly purchased using stolen credit card numbers, the department said Tuesday.

The Lawrence Township Police Department arrested a North Jersey man after allegedly discovering more than $400,000 worth of stolen SpaceX Starlink terminals, authorities said.

Police arrested Kelvin Rodriguez-Moya, 26, of Newark, Monday after a three-month investigation. Authorities said nearly 675 SpaceX Starlink terminals had been purchased using stolen credit card numbers, delivered to a location on Roxboro Road and transported somewhere in North Jersey.

Rodriguez-Moya was charged with second-degree receiving stolen property and trafficking stolen property. He is being held in the Mercer County Corrections Center pending a detention hearing.

Police were first alerted to a large number of shipments to the Roxboro Road address in December 2023, authorities said. During the investigation, detectives discovered that the Starlink terminals, which reportedly provide internet service in remote locations based on a network of satellites orbiting the earth, were purchased online and delivered to the Lawrence Township address as a shipping and storage location, officials said.

Authorities said detectives surveilled the property and observed Rodriguez-Moya loading the devices into a vehicle. A subsequent motor vehicle stop collected 223 Starlink terminals, authorities said.

Bennet Woo, the SpaceX Director of Payment Risk and Fraud, called the Starlink Terminal bust the “largest fraud recovery to date by an order of magnitude,” according to a press release from the Lawrence Township Police Department.

Lieutenant Kevin Reading of the Lawrence Township Police Department said the location where the terminals were being transported in North Jersey is still under investigation. He added that the FBI was notified about the department’s investigation in December.

An attorney for Rodriguez-Moya was not able to be reached Tuesday.
