Football: Kubo, Kamada exit Champions League as Sociedad, Lazio lose

Japan attackers Takefusa Kubo and Daichi Kamada saw their Champions League campaigns end in the round of 16 on Tuesday as Real Sociedad and Lazio were both eliminated.

Kubo played the full 90 minutes on the right wing for Sociedad as they looked to overturn their 2-0 deficit from the first leg against visiting Paris Saint-Germain.

The French champions were too strong again, however, winning 2-1 to claim a 4-1 aggregate victory over the Spanish side.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for the visitors 15 minutes in at Reale Arena after outflanking two defenders inside the box to curl home.

Kubo came close to answering on the stroke of halftime, when he fired just wide of the far post with a fierce drive from distance.

Mbappe doubled the lead on a counter in the 56th minute before Mikel Merino scored a consolation for Sociedad in the dying minutes.

Lazio failed to make use of their 1-0 first-leg win at home, meanwhile, as the Italian side lost 3-0 away to German giants Bayern Munich on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.

Headed goals from Harry Kane and Thomas Muller late in the first half saw Bayern turn the tie around before Kane tapped in his second in the 66th minute at Allianz Arena.

Kamada, who has been sparsely used by manager Maurizio Sarri in his first season at Lazio, came on with 10 minutes left and the result was beyond reach.
