Report: Club are going to make decision on £60m player's future after the Euros, Chelsea have been linked

Chelsea may have to wait until after the Euros to sign one player who they have been linked with.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is considered as an option at Chelsea, a report from football.london claimed in January.

However, according to GiveMeSport, Palace will not make a decision on the central defender’s future until after Euro 2024.

If the Eagles do decide to sell Guehi, the same outlet claims that he could cost £60m.

Chelsea have a few issues in central defence so could very well find themselves in the market for a new centre-back in the summer. Thiago Silva’s contract expires at the end of the season, while Benoit Badiashile keeps picking up injuries. Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande is another name that has been linked to Stamford Bridge.

Crystal Palace delaying Marc Guehi decision

It is quite clear to see what Palace are doing. The club want to see if Guehi excels with England at the Euros so that they can bump up his price and sell him for more money.

It makes sense and they are well within their rights to do it. Whatever happens in Germany in the summer, Palace should be able to get a good fee for Guehi from Chelsea or another Premier League club.

The England international has proven himself in the top flight and is still only 23 years of age. He is only going to become better.

In total, Guehi has made 95 appearances in the top flight. This season, he is making 3.9 clearances per game. Only Joachim Anderson is averaging more with 4.9 (WhoScored).

If Chelsea are looking for a centre-back, then, their former player could be a great option for them. A potential deal, though, could depend on what happens with Silva in the summer and whether the likes of Badiashile and Wesley Fofana can remain fit.
