The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has approved “A Bill for a Law to Amend, Repeal and Re-Enact the Nasarawa State Harmonisation and Administration of Revenue Law and for Purposes Connected Therewith.”

The assembly also passed a bill titled “Law to Amend College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia Nasarawa State 2020 and other Matters Connected Thereof.”

The announcement of the bills’ passage was made by the Speaker of the house, Honorable Danladi Jatau, during the assembly’s proceedings in Lafia.

Jatau pointed out the potential benefits of the Revenue Harmonisation Bill, noting that it aims to reduce multiple tax collections and enhance the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

He stated that the legislation seeks to rectify irregularities associated with revenue collection processes, thus promoting transparency and accountability.

Regarding the College of Agriculture, Science, and Technology Bill, the speaker explained that its enactment would entail changing the leadership titles within the institution from provost to rector and deputy provost to deputy rector.

This administrative adjustment is expected to streamline the governance structure of the college, ensuring greater efficiency and effectiveness in its operations.

The Speaker directed the clerk of the House to communicate the resolutions to Governor Abdullahi Sule for further action.

The majority leader of the House, Honorable Suleiman Yakubu Azara, moved the motions for the bills to undergo the third reading, a motion that was duly seconded by the minority leader, Honorable Luka Iliya Zhekaba.
