Zverev: Paris Olympics is the big event of the year not grand slams

Tokyo Olympic champion Alexander Zverev sees this year's Summer Games in Paris as the highlight of the tennis season.

"It's the biggest event of the year. I think it is for many players," the 26-year-old German told reporters in Indian Wells.

"Carlos Alcaraz also said that he would rather win the Olympic Games than a grand slam tournament this year. I believe him straight away."

Zverev won men's singles gold in Tokyo in 2021 for his biggest success to date.

Following a serious injury at the 2022 French Open, he is now back on form and reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open in January.

"I'm happy with how I'm playing. I'm happy about that and I'm also happy about what the year has to offer," added Zverev ahead of his first match at Indian Wells later on Friday.

"I'm 26 years old and still want to achieve something in my life. I still want to achieve something in my career. It's not enough for me yet."
