A primary school pupils and staff celebrated World Book Day by sharing their favourite bedtime stories.
At Sir Donald Bailey Academy, Newark, pupils were invited to wear pyjamas for a day filled with books activities and references yesterday (March 7).
They attended an assembly where they were introduced to the work of Roald Dahl, author of the famous book – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
In mathematics children surveyed their peer’s chocolate preferences, they created tally and bar charts to show their results, in science children learnt how to make chocolate and some children used their measuring skills to create chocolate Krispie cakes.
Other pupils entered the Lemonade Room and measured the mass of carbon dioxide in a glass of lemonade.
They have also taken part in art and creative writing activities.
The school’s headteacher Mrs Knapp said that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of future success and it has a high focus in our school.
Mrs Handley, reading champion, said: “The children already enjoy super library facilities with over 12,000 books for them to choose from.
“We have created a social and relaxed reading environment and we celebrate all types of reading and encourage the children to read their way.
“Every child knows that we don’t just celebrate reading on World Book Day because reading makes you clever and it can enrich lives.”
