Latest blow for Man Utd could see red-hot 18-year-old handed opportunity vs Everton - opinion

Manchester United have suffered yet another injury blow, this could lead to a red-hot teenage talent being named on the bench.

The latest in a long line of injuries has just hit Manchester United and Erik ten Hag‘s options have narrowed.

In recent weeks, Omari Forson has become a regular, seeming to be ahead of both Antony and Amad Diallo in Ten Hag’s plans.

The 19-year-old winger has now been added to the injury list as Ten Hag confirmed on Friday that Forson has ‘dropped out’.

This is another blow for the manager, but for one academy player, he could be about to get his shot in the matchday squad.

Ethan Williams could now replace Omari Forson in matchday squad

So obviously Ten Hag isn’t going to start Ethan Williams, but he could be named in the first-team matchday squad which would be huge for him. Also well deserved.

Williams has been on fire this season through both the U18 and U21 sides and should already be on Ten Hag’s mind for a cameo or future cup competitions.

This season alone, Williams has bagged 13 goals and made eight assists for various United youth teams.

He’s been simply sublime and therefore with an attacking space opening up on the bench, he needs to be in line to fill it, for experience and for a possible debut.

Samuel Luckhurst agrees, tipping Williams for the position in a tweet on Friday. He added that the fact Williams was left out of the U21 game suggests he is in line to be at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Is Ethan Williams ready to play for Manchester United?

Williams looks like an immense talent and right now, there is nobody in the academy making waves like he does.

Williams has shown this season he can do it all and has shown zero drop-off upon his rise to U21 level.

Being 18 means it wouldn’t be unrealistic to suggest he could be ready to make an appearance, so if he’s on the bench and United are winning we wouldn’t be surprised by a cameo at some point in the game.
