VfB Stuttgart defender Anthony Rouault is sidelined for up to six weeks with a broken jaw that requires surgery, the Bundesliga club said on Saturday.

Rouault, 22, suffered the injury in Friday's 2-0 league victory over Union Berlin and was substituted at half-time. He was playing with a face mask due to a recent nose fracture.

Stuttgart said that the Frenchman would require surgery and would miss "four to six weeks" of action.

Rouault came to Stuttgart in summer on loan from Toulouse and signed a permanent contract until 2027 on Tuesday at the third-placed club.
