Film fans are outraged Messi, the border collie and star of Anatomy of a Fall, won’t be at the Oscars this year.
The pup has become a fan-favorite this year ahead of the Academy Awards and even attended the nominees luncheon. However, Messi reportedly won’t be attending the Oscars, the glitzy event, tomorrow night and fans are upset over it. According to a source at the Neon-distributed movie, Messi attending the Oscars luncheon was a one-off, and won’t be on the Red Carpet.
‘It’s beyond anything we anticipated’
The reason movie fans have their tails in a twist is because Messi, who starred as Snoop, has captured their hearts. Snoop is character Daniel’s guide dog in the drama which also picked up a Golden Globe this year.
Trainer and dog mom Laura Martin said the reaction to Messi on screen has been incredible.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “All of this attention began at Cannes. There were a few interviews in France, but what we’ve been experiencing here in America – with the attention to this dog and his acting – it’s beyond anything we anticipated.
“It’s probably the maximum that you can accomplish in this field.”
However, he has enjoyed his time in LA when he visited. Messi actually participated in a press junket, enjoyed a day at Venice Beach and bonded with Billie Eilish and Bradley Cooper. Let’s not forget he posed with director Olivia Wilde during a live reading of the screenplay.
Martin added: “The big moment was with Billie Eilish, who bonded with Messi for almost 10 minutes. They were hugging and petting and they really had a vibe. Then Bradley Cooper bumped into him in the hallway. The dog went right to him, so they also had a connection.”
Deadline reports multiple companies with films nominated at the awards show complained over Messi attending the Oscars luncheon.

Fans are upset Messi won’t be attending and have taken to social media to express their sadness and outrage over the complains.
One wrote on Twitter: “But WHYYY. He is such a good boyy”.
A second asked: “So the film is nominated and the dog was in a pivotal acting scene but can’t come for not being human?”
While a third added: “Is Messi the dog in the picture? How can anyone complain about that? Look at him he’s adorable.”
A fourth demanded: “This is an atrocity. #JusticeForMessi. @TheAcademy RELEASE THE NAMES.”
Another raged: “The Oscar’s BETTER have a segment where they give Messi an Oscar because I’m not f***ing around when I say Messi gave the performance of a lifetime.”
And someone else echoed: “Who the actual F**K has a problem with Messi, huh?! This adorable canine actor delivered probably the best non-human performance in #AnatomyOfAFall and is perhaps a better professional than those studio execs and critics crying wolf.”
